Personal artifact salvage assistance:

The faculty, staff and students of the School of Information at The University of Texas at Austin are saddened to hear of the tragic fire and explosion in West, Texas, and our sympathy goes out to all the residents.  As people return to their homes and work, we want them to know that we have trained conservators who can help assess family photographs, books, documents, and heirlooms.  With proper care and handling it may be possible to save damaged materials, even those that seem to be a total loss.  We can assist in drying and cleaning wet and smoke damaged books, documents, and photographs.  Even charred items can often be salvaged.  Please let us help you assess heirlooms before you discard them.  We are available for consultation over phone or video, and plan to come to the scene when the area has been stabilized. Please contact: Karen Pavelka, Lecturer 512-903-9564
